THE OLLA CO-OPERATIVE

The Olla co-operative was created on 9 June 2000. The  President of the co-operative, Maestro Antonio Caiella, is a teacher on the course "Techniques of manufacture and decoration of the precious objects belonging to the Daunia region". The administrator of the co-operative is Mr Roberto Lodato who also works as project co-ordinator for the Olla project.

The aims of the co-operative are:

  • to research, to produce and commercialise hand-crafted products, particularly those made of precious metals and clay. The products will be promoted commercially through craft fairs, exposition and exhibition as necessary.
  • To reduce unemployment, making young people aware of the commercial potential of the craft sector.
  • To promote study and research in the field of interest.
  • To instruct young people through education and training to achieve a high enough level of professional qualification to enable them to participate in the commercial market.
  • To be able to manage fairs, exhibitions, museums and trading outlets.

The following was undertaken during the initial start-up phase:

  • financial support by rag. Domenico Paciello, expert in CNA, who created a business plan.
  • Marketing support by dr. Antonio Lodato who has undertook a market survey in the field clay and precious metals
  • Management of production and process by Gaetano Capozza, expert in production methods.

 

The President: Maestro Antonio Caiella is a ceramist and potter. The third generation of potters, he was born in Canosa di Puglia (BA) on 21 august 1941. He has exhibited widely, both locally and nationally. His work focuses particularly on the production of Daunian ceramic. From many years, he has developed techniques working with natural colours and glazes.

The Vice-president: Longobardi Ferdinando is a student in the course: "Techniques of manufacture and decoration of the precious objects belonging to the Daunia region", he was born in Bari on 28 December 1981, where he still lives.
