MONITORING AND EVALUATION

ACCOMPANYING THE CREATION OF A COOPERATIVE BUSINESS

The students were accompanied in the creation a cooperative through further in depth interventions and three specific actions, aiming at building an awareness in the target group of the necessary personal and financial involvement.

The students met with professional consultants in order to truly understand the possibilities and the risks involved in taking part in the cooperative.

A survey has been carried out and discussed with the students on the local marketing strategies to define the activities linked to the regular and constant sale of the products.

A second in depth study concerned the financing sources accessible for the future members, the drafting of a business plan.

Finally, an expert on methods and time requirements was asked to intervene to study the real working process of the ceramics craftsmen and the jewellers and the facilities of the cooperative where the students would be operating, he drew up a plan to optimise production and a process work flow along with an analysis of the work loads.

Obviously, because of the limit of the coming of age, it was possible for only four of the students who were major to become members; by their side, to support them in becoming self-employed workers, three workers of the Istituto San Giuseppe became members of the cooperative and an employee of the Institute.

The ceramist master became chairman.

The goals of the cooperative include production and sale activities as well as research and divulgation of the values of ceramics and metal handicrafts support to professional training and the young peoples employment.

The former students of the training acquire the right to become ordinary members when they are 18 years old, without paying an admission fee and subscription dues.

The presence of workers of the Istituto San Giuseppe and the chairmanship entrusted to the master ceramist are factors that enhance the growth of the students' professional profile, support measures designed to avoid the interruption of the rehabilitation process at the end of the course.

TRANSNATIONALITY

The examined project adheres to the Askos 2000 project, that has the following goals:

  • consolidation of the Aksos 2000 network;
  • identification in each national project of the application of the right procedures
  • exchange of trainers, teachers, experts and students;
  • diffusion of creative approaches to training and learning in situations at risk and young people's alienation;
  • identification of common training packages

The partnership was formed by six organisations from four European countries, giving their contribution to the Askos 2000 transnational project with the following national projects:

  • CAPE, Creative Arts Partnership in Education, Leeds (Great Britain)
  • ZUFI Hauptstelle, RAA, (Germany)
  • Work and family, Kobenhavns Kvindedaghojkole, Copenhagen, (Denmark)
  • Vocational life planning for young mothers, Deutshes Rotes, (Germany)
  • Nippen Museum, Jugendhilfe und Schule in Cologne, (Germany)
  • OLLA, Istituto San Giuseppe, Canosa di Puglia, (Italy)

Partners have exchanged students and tutors; concerning the Italian partner, three teachers of the Germany partner of the Zufi’s project have taken lessons on to the young people discomforts during the stage of the formation of tutors of the OLLA PROJECT.

But also the students of the Zufi’s project came to Italy, in Canosa di Puglia, for a period of two weeks, where they had the chance to see way the Italian young people are working on to the OLLA PROJECT, visiting their artisan labs.

For sure, the partecipation of the OLLA PRJECT to the Transnational Project, has give to both operators and students a chance to improve. For the operators especially, it has been a good chance ‘cause they have taken part to transnational meeting, and they had the chance to compare them selves with the other partners.
